What does the Bible say about... New Beginnings?

NEW BEGINNINGS.

There’s something about the calendar starting over again that feels like a fresh start. It’s exciting and refreshing. The month of January is infused with new motivation, inspiration, vision and energy. Gym memberships, health kicks, dreams, goal setting and long to-do lists. 

But eventually, the novelty wears off. Old habits sneak their way back in, and most people have altogether given up come springtime. As Christians, we are called to be good stewards and that includes our habits, our time, our gifts and God-given vision. 

So, how can we stay disciplined and keep that “New Year zeal” alive for all 12 months? Well, I have good news: We serve a God who specializes in making all things new ✨🙌 Let’s see what the Word of God has to say about new beginnings, shall we?

Here is what the Bible has to say about new beginnings: 

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight

Isaiah 43:18-19
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. 

Colossians 3:9-10
Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 

Lamentations 3:22-24
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 

Ephesians 4:23-24
to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. 

Philippians 3:13-14
Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. 

Revelation 21:5
…“I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

Ecclesiastes 3:11
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

Job 8:7
Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be

1 Peter 1:3
In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead… 

Isaiah 40:31
…but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. 

Ezekiel 36:26
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” 

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
