What does the Bible say about... God's Children?
CHILDREN, FAMILY & LEGACY.
Building a godly family and leaving a legacy that glorifies Jesus may feel like an uphill battle, especially in the world we live in today. However, whether it’s your own children, through adoption or a spiritual family in community, God’s heart is always FOR family. Family and building a godly legacy are the most meaningful and rewarding pursuits that God entrusts us with as believers.
A godly family isn’t merely about living together under one roof or attending church services; it’s about creating a home rooted in faith, love and intentional discipleship. Through this journey, we leave a lasting legacy that to future generations.
Building a godly family begins with laying a solid foundation in Christ. Psalm 127:1 says, "Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain." Faith must be the bedrock of the home, where every action, decision and relationship flows from a deep-rooted trust in God.
In honor of our latest addition, Elevated Faith Kids, we wanted to highlight the importance of building the right foundation at home and emphasize God’s heart for family. Souls are the only thing we can take with us, and legacy is what we leave behind!
Here is what the Bible has to say about God’s children:
John 1:12-13 “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”
Matthew 18:3-5 “And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”
Proverbs 22:6 “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
Philippians 2:14-16a “Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.”
Galatians 4:6-7 “Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”
Psalm 127:3 “Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.”
Proverbs 13:22 “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.”
Mark 10:15 “Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
Romans 8:15-16 “The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
Proverbs 29:17 “Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire.”
Proverbs 17:6 “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.”
Ephesians 6:4 “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”
1 John 3:1a “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”
In the Bible, God tells us that children are a blessing and a gift. Jesus actually tells us to be like children and to come to Him full of faith and trust! What does being God’s child, family and building a godly legacy mean to you?
