What I'm Thankful for in 2024

As we gather around our tables this Thanksgiving, let's emphasize not just the theme of Thanksgiving but the heart posture of it. Let’s be intentional about making space to reflect on the goodness of God and all that He has done in our lives this year. In a world that’s chaotic, rushed and never satisfied, gratitude recenters our hearts on what truly matters. This is what takes our eyes off the gift and places them on the Giver.

As we enjoy food, fellowship and festivities, let’s remember that Thanksgiving is not just a holiday but the way we should live our lives. Let’s cultivate a heart of gratitude and carry it into every day of the year. The Bible says to pray with thanksgiving, as if thanksgiving is one of the main ingredients in a very important recipe–the recipe of prayer that changes us, changes others and is pleasing to God 🙏

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” -Philippians 4:6

Whether it’s family, friends or the local church, the relationships in our lives are evidence of God’s fingerprints in our lives. Hebrews 10:24-25 says to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together ... but encouraging one another.” How can you walk this out in your own life? How can you reflect this in your community? Who can you encourage this holiday season? Encouragement can go a lot farther than you may think.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 challenges us to “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” This means, in every circumstance, situation and season, there is always a reason to give thanks–perhaps it’s the strength you’ve discovered through trials or the way God has drawn you closer to Him. God has a way of using the broken things in our stories for our good and His glory. Gratitude helps us remember who He is and gives us hope for all that He has yet to do.

As you end 2024, let gratitude be the thread that ties your heart to God and to those around you. As you celebrate Thanksgiving, may you overflow with thankfulness, knowing that every good gift truly does come from God Himself.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” -James 1:17
